The principle, design and performance of a miniature helium speech unscrambler based on charge transfer device technology are described. Use of low power analogue technology in the unscrambler, permits realisation of a system which can operate in an underwater (diver-borne) situation offering improved communication capability. Details of the design of the miniature unscrambler are included to indicate technology trade-offs and packaging and operational considerations for the unscrambler are presented.
