To meet the ever-growing demand, Hitachi constantly strives to make improvements and develop new technology to match actual operating conditions. Diesel electric locomotives for main line service on national railways often use bogies of Bo-Bo or Bo-Bo-Bo wheel arrangement, which helps reduce track maintenance cost because it has a small lateral thrust force. Such bogies, of course, contribute also to higher reliability and lower maintenance cost for the locomotive itself. As for industrial diesel hydraulic locomotives, we have serialized five classes of easy-to-operate standard locomotive that take account of operators and maintenance facilities. In addition, to comply with latest requirements for environmental conservation and labor saving, we have come up with low noise type, semiexplosion type, very low speed type, and automatic train operating type locomotives, and automatic inspection and monitoring devices.
