Fatigue crack propagation data relevant to offshore structures and classified according to cathodic potential are discussed. Linear regression analysis data and results are given for the fatigue strength of butt and fillet welds and the C and m parameters in the Paris equation are defined. The mathematical approach to the fracture mechanics methods used and the influence of electrochemical potential, initial defect size, thickness of materials, eccentricity and weld profile were studied. The conclusions reached concerning stress range influence, the comparison of fatigue strength behaviour in air and seawater, and a comparison with appropriate design curves derived by the use of fracture mechanics are given.
