The corrosion fatigue strengths of four kinds of high strength steel plate and their cruciformed fillet welded joints made by shielded metal arc welding are studied in the artificial sea water. The effect of weld toe treatment on the corrosion fatigue strength is intensively studied. The hammer peening is the most promising weld toe treatment for increasing the corrosion fatigue strength. It gives the corrosion fatigue strength as large as the base metal without any help of cathodic protection. The toe grinding and TIG dressing improve the corrosion fatigue strength of welded joint, but its benefit is inferior to hammer peening.
