Throughout the history of the use of computers, a trained operator has been needed at the man/machine interface. But as computers are tied more and more into the 'main line' activities of enterprises, the use of trained computer operators becomes less feasible. The operating laymen themselves must make the data entry and use the output results. This interface between the computer and the operating people must be designed to make things as easy as possible for those people.
