The train timetable automatic editing system developed jointly with Sha-Ken Co., Ltd. (Photo-composing Machine Mfg.) for the purpose of mechanizing composition of timetables published monthly by Japan Travel Bureau, Inc. was started up in March 1976. This system, designed to make up block copies of timetables, divides data in a timetable into four files, edits data necessary for typesetting with pages as the key, and transmits the data to a composing computer via a data exchanger (DXC). In this system using Kanji codes and newly developed variable indexed sequential access method (ISAM) files, processing peculiar to Kanji information is supported in file maintenance, with the aim of improving the processing speed and reducing area.
