Maritime radiocommunications, which include telecommunications between the shore (land subscribers) and ships, and between ships, may be classified into the following categories, according to the navigation area: harbour, coastal and ocean communications. Furthermore, maritime radiocommunications may also be classified according to message content. Besides telephony and telegraphy, there are various kinds of messages such as safety, messages and broadcasting. Moreover there are many radionavigation systems such as radiobeacons, Loran, Decca and Omega, Band 7(HF), 3-30MHz, is used for ocean communication. High quality services cannot be obtained by use of band 7, so a satisfactory quality is expected to be attained only by the introduction of microwave techniques.
