Aluminium tanks form one single structure with the steel hull in this novel design from a Norwegian shipbuilder. An outstanding technical innovation in shipbuilding in recent years has been the construction of Liquid Natural Gas tankers. The use of on-board spherical containment vessels allows maximum volume utilisation, and, when built on a pressure vessel principle, obviates any need for a secondary barrier. Tank support was seen as one possible area of difficulty because of the contraction involved with gas temperatures of 110 Grad K.
