Magnetic fields produced by superconducting magnets on high speed guided vehicles may produce intolerably largee ddy losses in armature and stabilization windings as well as in structural steel components unless proper precautions are taken. This paper describes an approximate method of calculating the eddy losses and illustrates the method by calculating the losses for a proposed linear synchronous motor.
