A description is given of an algorithm for the determination of current and projected annual air pollutant emissions from vehicles in any urban area. A computer program based on this algorithm, PAVE, has been developed. A typical running timefor this program on modern computers is less than one minute and the cost only a few dollars. The results of applying the program to emissions from automobiles in the San Francisco Bay Area are presented and discussed.
