A wheel profile wear prediction tool is presented and verified by using a case study. A methodology is introduced that is based on a load collective concept, where representative vehicle-track simulations are chosen to take into account parameters that affect wheel wear. Key parts of the tool are load collective design, vehicle-track simulations, wheel-rail contact response calculations, wear calculations and wheel profile updating. Simulated and measured wheel profiles and corresponding scalar wear measures agree well.
