This paper presents an analytical approach for estimating the friction coefficient between a tire and the road. We analyzed the friction coefficient in real time, based on a brush type tire model with unlimited carcass stiffness. The validation experiments were conducted on wet and dry surfaces on an indoor drum type tire testing machine. The calculated friction coefficients agreed well with the measured values.
