As an innovative operation organization method, multi-unit operation organization mode adapts to the imbalance of the time distribution of the whole day passenger flow by adopting different train composition in different periods, which is conducive to energy saving, operation cost reducing and passenger service level improving. This article starts from the realization of multi-unit operation organization, conducts research on how to realize the automatic coupling and uncoupling of trains under Full Automatic Operation (FAO). Firstly, the key technologies of train related mechanical devices and electrical logic design, inauguration of train network control system of automatic coupling and uncoupling are studied. Then 2 trains are taken for example, the automatic coupling and uncoupling scenario as well as some crucial on-board and ground systems involved in the whole process are described in detail. Finally, the challenges faced by the multi-unit mode in the operation process are discussed.
