The European Space Agency spacecraft, Venus Express, and the Japanese spacecraft, Akatsuki, conducted complementary missions to investigate dynamics of the clouds and atmosphere of Venus. Both missions involved orbiting spacecraft that gathered information using specialized cameras and scientific instruments. Venus Express entered a near polar orbit of Venus in April 2006 and gathered data until November 2014. Akatsuki entered an equatorial orbit of Venus in December 2015 and it was still operating in 2021.
