Rapid removal of line faults is an important measure to increase transmission line capacity and improve power system stability. The use of transient components of fault traveling waves can constitute protective relaying with ultrahigh speed. In fact, the earliest concept of traveling wave protection focused mainly on the utilization of transient fault traveling waves, and therefore most people regard traveling waves and transients as equivalent; however, it has been readily determined from the previous analysis that fault traveling waves do not have only transient components.
