It is of vital importance to cater for train control systems, staff and passenger emergency brake requests in the railway brake system. Further, long tunnels and bridges call for a selective handling of passenger emergency brake requests. This is provided by the so-called emergency brake override functionality, which is part of this chapter as well as the emergency brake itself. Electro-pneumatic brakes use electrical control lines to increase pneumatic brake performance and come in different fashions according regulations and requirements. The principle is derived in this chapter and solutions are presented.
