This chapter summarises methods and technologies involved in aerial robotics. First, it introduces the terminology, the motivation and a brief history of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Then, it presents the main classes of unmanned aerial vehicles platforms. Next, a decision and control architecture is briefly introduced. The next two sections are devoted to the modelling and control of multi-rotor systems and fixed wing platforms, respectively. These sections include concepts and methods involved in the autopilots. The next section introduces the sensors and the estimation for navigation. Finally, a section is devoted to autonomous functions including path planning, collision detection and avoidance, and simultaneous localisation and mapping.
