EALU-AER is a scalable U-Space technology infrastructure integration and demonstration project to establish Ireland’s first Digital Sky Demonstrator (DSD), enabling the smooth transition towards smart cities and is located at Future Mobility Campus Ireland’s (FMCI) recently established vertiport site, in the vicinity of Shannon Airport, Ireland. This project focuses to demonstrate the proposed U-Space architecture operations and enable U1 and U2 services integrated with AirNavIE Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems, allowing the safe integration into the airspace of zero-emission drones that will perform different Urban Air Mobility (UAM) missions. This project will leverage world-class integrated Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) technology solution that encompasses an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) platform (Collins Airspace Services), a backhaul network (ARINC Ground Network) that will ensure the secure data exchange, Control and Non-payload Communications (CNPC) Command and Control (C2) link equipment, and advanced three-dimensional phased array radar (Skyler®). To demonstrate a range of UAM operations, across the range of U-Space services projected through the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) U-Space Concept of Operations (ConOps), several use cases are proposed that capture the technology demonstrations associated with the projected near-term UAM services market. The project will collaborate with EUROCONTROL and other DSD projects to harmonize requirements, ConOps and recommendations for standardization and regulations and derive measures for public acceptance. It is expected that this technology driven by eVTOLs (electrical vertical take-off and landing) vehicles will improve the connectivity on the Ireland island both internally and internationally, which is of vital importance for the continued development of the country.
