VII or vehicle infrastructure initiative is listed as new DSRC protocol, but it is more than DSRC, it is a major advancement in ITS for vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to roadside systems. The VII 5.9 GHz WAVE protocol provides the range, throughput capacity and low latency to handle current and future ITS roles and capabilities. The VII WAVE protocol integrated into the vehicle's data bus and combined with current and future e-payment systems has the potential to provide tolling, priority toll/HOV lanes, congestion charging and distance-time-location based services.
