The maritime industry has been identified as a key sector needing significant emission reductions to meet decarbonization targets by 2050. One potential solution is the adoption of nuclear power for commercial ships. However, these vessels necessitate specialized maritime ports equipped with advanced surveillance systems to safeguard nuclear materials. This study presents an intelligent system designed to enhance the nuclear security of ports hosting commercial nuclear-powered ships. The system employs fuzzy logic to analyze various heterogeneous types of information and integrate it into the port’s exit design layout. Its goal is to maximize the likelihood of detecting stolen nuclear material while ensuring the port’s size is sufficient to facilitate the swift handling of goods. The system’s effectiveness is demonstrated through several simulated scenarios, highlighting the tradeoff between detection accuracy and optimal port sizing.
