In order to make full use of the carpooling to alleviate the intercity traffic pressure during holidays, the carpooling intention of intercity passengers and the effect mechanism of related influencing factors were explored in this paper. Based on the theory of planned behavior, take the characteristics of carpooling and the passengers’ psychological factors into consideration to construct the holiday intercity passengers’ carpooling intention model. And then, through the case of the questionnaire survey data, the influence of relevant factors on passengers’ carpooling intention was quantitative analysis. The results show that passengers’ carpooling intention is directly related to the attitude and perceived behavior control toward carpooling, and the attitude toward carpooling is the most important factor affecting carpool intention. The attitude increases by 1 unit, the carpooling intention will increase by 0.50 units. The convenience, safety, comfort, and economy of carpooling have the indirect influence on passengers’ carpooling intention by affecting the attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavior control. The influences of safety, comfort and economy on carpooling intention are weak and the effects are 0.07, 0.09, and 0.12, respectively.
