Downsizing and downspeeding are the key elements in reducing the fuel consumption of internal combustion engines. Associated with this is a reduction in the number of cylinders, the introduction of direct fuel injection and a higher degree of supercharging of the engines, which leads to increasing torsional vibrations on the crankshaft. Lightweight construction and a reduction in torque loss in the drive train reduce natural damping and promote noise generation and radiation. At the same time, the customer will not accept a loss of comfort in the noise level of the entire vehicle. On the contrary, the customer demands also increase, which leads to increased demands on the sound quality.
