The principle of unidirectional collinearity of angular momenta - in short the collinearity principle - is a physical law governing the behaviour of gyroscopic systems and valid for spinning single-body and multi-body spacecraft, for planetary systems, for galaxies, and possibly on the microscopic scale for atomic systems. In the present paper the collinearity principle is stated and its origin, history and applications are discussed.
