This article describes a target-oriented method for the design of railway wheel profiles. The target chosen is the rolling radius difference function, which plays an important role in the dynamics of railway vehicles especially for high-speed performance, and also for curve steering ability. A computer program based on this method has also been developed and is validated by way of an example. This method also meets the requirements for low contact stress and even wear between the wheel and the rail.
