This paper describes the various types of testing systems as applied to materials, components and structures installed in the Laboratory for Testing of Materials, Components and Structures (LUK) at Serpong, near Jakarta. These facilities were built to support the development of the various industries in Indonesia including the automotive industry. This paper also highlights the major testing and research areas in the field of materials, conponents and complete vehicle assembly or structure that are carried out in LUK facilities. Programming and the experimental techniques used in the various tests are discussed. Emphasis is given to the mechanical testing systems that are most important and widely used such as tensile testing and fatigue testing.
