This paper discusses a rapidly expanding phase of earth-moving operations—the incorporation of cushioning devices into the push loading team of tractors and scrapers. The cushioning devices can be attached to the front of the pusher or the rear of the scraper. Variations of the placements are shown pictorially, and evaluations are made of the physical setup. Also discussed are the design criteria, with respect to forces and acceleration rates, used in the development of a cushioning system which employs rubber springs as the cushioning medium.
