In this paper it is shown that the design of the heat-transfer surfaces of Stirling-cycle machines can be based on an ideal isothermal analysis of the cycle and the use of conventional heat exchanger design techniques; however, the use of steady-flow heat-transfer data and expressions for effectiveness as a function of Ntu may not be valid.
