Effects of engine parameters on performance can be investigated by using a mathematical model of the engine cycle, and the computed results may be used to optimize performance. The following design parameters were varied: crankcase clearance volume, exhaust and transfer port timings, exhaust and transfer port areas and bore/stroke ratio. Studies assumed both constant and variable exhaust pressures.Effects of engine parameters on performance can be investigated by using a mathematical model of the engine cycle, and the computed results may be used to optimize performance. The following design parameters were varied: crankcase clearance volume, exhaust and transfer port timings, exhaust and transfer port areas and bore/stroke ratio.
