This paper describes the experimental results of a type of spring -energized elastic metal gaskets consisting of a helical core spring wrapped with a soft metal envelope for the application to cask seals.Tests were carried out to evaluate the seal life by means of a relaxation curve and to make clear the sealing reliability under thermal stresses by using a helium leak detector with a sensitivity of 1×10−10 - 6×10−11 torr·1/sec, resulted in satisfactory to the applications intended for the gaskets.
