TODAY, the application of supercharging to all types of engines, and particularly to diesel engines, is becoming more and more widespread. Of the many schemes for supercharging, the mechanically driven positive-displacement compressor is very effective for the small high-speed engine and for the diesel engine that requires high torque at low speed.The authors illustrate the advantages of the Elliott-Lysholm supercharger by describing a 400- to 500-cfm unit.
