While extreme in utilization of auxiliary charging is associated with gasoline airplane engine, more moderate application of scheme has resulted in higher specific output for all types of engines; to Diesel engine designer, supercharging is particularly significant, since it has not yet been possible to achieve as effective use of air charge in compression ignition engine as in spark ignition type.
