The largest portion of cars produced in Indonesia is commercial vehicle, that is close to a figure of 80% of the total production. Most of the 3/4 - 1 ton category with forms the largest market sectors is usually converted into minibus for family and public transportation. Body manufacturing industry has grown significantly. Recently, there are approximately 120 body manufacturers of various sizes. Some of the companies have the capacity of producing approximately 500 units per month. The technology used to manufacture departs from the local technology. Improvements have been made especially in the exterior and interior design. Despite the improved design, however, there are still several problems faced by the manufacturers such as corrosion, loose fit between moving parts and loose joints. Those problems usually occurs two years after the unit is purchased. Some of these problems have been identified and to be solved by improvement in the design and manufacturing. Some feasible suggestions will be presented such as appropriate materials to be used and better manufacturing method to be employed.
