Laboratory testing of clutch friction materials simulates field conditions by the assimilation of microprocessor, solid state controller, instrumentation and data acquisition technologies. The microprocessor based integrated system provides test control, events sequencing, data acquisition, data reduction, results display, test conditions, transducer monitoring, and operator interaction. The microprocessor based testing system described in this paper is used to quality audit and develop clutch friction materials at the John Deere Product Engineering Center in Waterloo, Iowa.
