One of the key challenges in High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) engineering is in proving compliance to the requirements. Analytical methods provide early guidance to the design process and support to a test program but have not matured yet to prove compliance by themselves. Test methods at both the airframe and LRU/subsystem level remain the only currently accepted means of proving compliance to the HIRF requirements. Proper selection and scheduling of these tests can be a prime ingredient in a successful aircraft HIRF certification program.
