A brief history of the background and the first year operating results of SFO Helicopter Airlines is given. Basic factors which led to SFO's success were the area of operation, capital structure, management personnel, equipment, and quality of service.Although commercial helicopter service primarily has been a link in airline connection, inter-city and commuter service are two additional areas where expansion can take place. Helicopter service is now in the DC-3 stage of airline operation. However, within five years new equipment such as the Skycrane and 100-passenger rotary wing transports will be available and will usher in a new era of swift and safe short-haul air travel.
