It is important to drive at a moderate speed in order to reduce the number of accidents. However, in previous studies, it was found that many drivers did not maintain a moderate speed. The main reason was to shorten traveling time. However, it was found that there was no meaningful difference in traveling time when speeding and when driving at regulated speeds. The authors investigated the relationship between driving time and maximum driving speed with a questionnaire. The subjects were to estimate the traveling time from start to finish at four levels of maximum speed. The results showed that the faster they drove, the shorter the traveling time would become. These factors seem to promote speeding. And these results suggest that it is necessary to educate drivers about the cost and the benefits of speeding.
