This paper identifies areas in the JT9D engine where the potential exists for either further performance recovery following repair, or for improved performance retention. A number of new procedures and tools which will improve performance recovery are described. Improvements in inspection techniques are discussed. Operational techniques which will improve performance retention and impact degree of refurbishment required are also presented in the paper.
