Short haul and local delivery trucks could benefit from the efficiency of a diesel power plant. Development background of the 6.354 diesel engine for medium duty trucks is given, together with the reasons for deciding on an inline 6-cyl engine, and the other engine design features. Operating costs of trucks using diesel engines are shown to be much lower than with gasoline engines.
