Development background of 6.354 engine for medium duty trucks, reasons for deciding on in-line 6-cyl engine, and engine design features; engine rating is 120 bhp at maximum speed of 2800 rpm, stroke is 4.5 in. and bore 3.875 in.; performance capabilities of engine with various GVW are shown; results achieved in cities while making multiple stops and operating in congested traffic; characteristics of minimum cost, adequate life, minimum package size and weight, high performance required to enable diesel to compete successfully with gasoline engine in medium truck field are shown.
