It is difficult to balance family, work, and 'me-time' but community collaborations can provide professional and personal development, as well as an opportunity to promote what ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers) has to offer. The message is simple. Step outside of your comfort zone -- attend a meeting or group gathering in which you can have a positive impact and expect to gain more than what you put in. Whether it is a group of transportation advocates like Young Professionals in Transportation or Livable Streets, or your local PTA that might be developing a safe routes to school program, get involved. As an ITE member, you have a lot to offer, but the author dare says they all have a lot to learn.
