A description of the main navigational challenges posed by the Space Station program is given. Among the specific navigational problems addressed are: attitude reference control for payload support applications; traffic control system requirements; navigational system for proximity operations; and the development of automated navigation systems. Navigational problems associated with solar array and radiator orientation are discussed in detail. A schematic diagram of the Space Station reference configuration is provided.
