The device is for holding a colored smoke composition on an aircraft during a high altitude flight. The holder supports cannisters in which replaceable cartridges are mounted. The cartridges consist of a heat-stable organic dyestuff and an oxidizing agent. The colored smoke marker, when fired, permits visual or optical tracking of the aircraft.
