Wind tunnel experiments, at supersonic speeds, to determine the characteristics of the three-dimensional growth of turbulent boundary layers on long axi-symmetrically placed wires are described. The results have led to the development of a method for calculating the shape of tension, and drag distribution (skin friction) along long towlines as used in aircraft target towing systems.
