The proposed highway development is the Shaw Freeway at the City of Sumter in Sumter County, South Carolina. The highway would extend from U.S. 76/378 near Shaw Air Force Base to the western outskirts of Sumter, a distance of about seven miles. A summary of the environmental impacts are: Improved traffic flow between Sumter and Shaw Air Force Base area, basis for future land development, displacement of residences and businesses, removal of forest and agricultural land from production, inconveniences to motorists and residents during construction, and introduction of noise and air pollution into corridor.
