The project concerns the excavation of a 2,000-foot extension of the existing 11-foot deep by 125-foot wide boat channel in Matanzas Pass, Lee County, Florida. The project will provide needed additional space for shrimp boats and other vessels maneuvering to the port facilities at Fort Myers Beach, Florida. About 40,000 cubic yards of sandy material will be dredged from the channel extension and pumped to the eroding beach of Estero Island. Temporary turbidity and the loss of a minor amount of bottom biota will cause a problem.
