The report describes a survey of car journey times carried out in London in March-April 1970. Journey time runs were made over eight radial and seven ring routes up to a radius of about 32 km from Charing Cross. In addition, the car journey times of 80 trips sampled from the London Traffic Survey were measured. Measurements were made during the morning peak, off-peak and evening peak periods. From the surveys of ring and radial routes, curves were produced of average journey times by distance from Charing Cross. Theoretical trip times obtained from these curves were in good agreement with the actual times for the sampled trips. The journey time data are presented both in tabulated form and as mathematical functions. (Author)
