Fiber glass reinforced plastic composite fuel tanks (300 gal.) for the A7D aircraft were developed and tested. The primary objective of the program was to demonstrate feasibility of using fiber reinforced plastic composite materials for fabrication of aircraft tankage on a production basis at low cost. The objective was satisfactorily met. Fatigue data for the composite and adhesive bonded materials used in fabrication of the tank was developed. Analysis of the tank involving loads, weight, stress, nesting, and tank volume was performed. Procedure and results of these analyses are reported. (Author)
