This report documents the results of a high-order programming language (HOL) standardization study for avionics systems. Existing HOL usage was surveyed as well as current status and trends of Air Force and DOD HOL standardization attempts. An in-depth comparison was made of the status of the two most prominently used HOL in avionics; JOVIAL-73 and JOVIAL-3B. Trends in usage of HOL's and assembly language for avionics were discussed.
