The standardization of avionics is based on modularity and commonality across an instruction set architecture. When budgetary cutbacks are considered, the ability to use standardization to cut costs assumes greater importance. Methodology to examine benefits of standardization is presented. Objectives associated with standards adopted by the Joint Integrated Avionics Working Group (JIAWG) and the Next Generation Computer Resources (NGCR) program are examined. Comparisons are made. Conclusions are reached. Recommendations are made.
