Conclusions are drawn from a comparative study of apogee boost motors proposed by two different firms for the main mission of the Ariane launch vehicle. The first, using liquid propellant, is directly derived from the Symphonie motor, which limits costs and development risks. The second, using solid propellant, is technically advanced and is superior to the first in performance.
